Social Soccer League KL

Well, this week will be the 3rd league week of SSL-KL 2008/09 season. Lets take a look at what have been happening in SSL.
For a start, all three divisions seem to be getting pretty even in strength. In premier we saw two expats team occupying top two spots. Asterix Reds and Vikings are really looking good. So far the most impressive would be Asterix. Their attacking plays and cohesiveness in all departments are getting the needed results. 2 win out of two. Vikings is Vikings, ever steady and resilient. Their defensive and counter attacking plays are their main weapons. Taso and Morten are the key players. Local teams are somewhat squeeze in between. Kepong, Expert Klang, TSV and Mancis have all lost once. BM and DHFC are the last two teams. Like the saying goes, the race is still early anything can go well or bad. The new season is expected to be another closely fought affair. Consistency counts.
Division one is a similar story. One thing i do notice is Astaka. They tend to be the yo-yo team. Why? I have noticed that for two times that they have been relegated, twice they bounced back to be promoted again. So far they have chalked up two victories. Red Star also looking good but the problem with them could be the availability of their core players. I reckon it is the vital ingredient for any teams if they want to stay consistent in their performances. Club 9 would be the local teams to lead the title challenge. Fusion, Warriors, Conn and MF not far behind.
For division 2 aka the most competitive divison :), Old-New boys -> Sporting KL (Soccerities) will be the team to beat. Their base of many ex-KL Selangor clubs players will give them a slight edge over the others. Swoosh, Maluri and Wolves can still spring some surprises or even challenge Sporting for the title. Lingam (Maluri) has managed to pinched several Mancis kaki and recruited some good young guns to his ships too. No more the whipping boys. They will be one of the tai-ko to watch. Their main concern is getting enough players to turn up on Saturdays which Lingam has so far managed to avoid .Same goes to Wolves.
It will definitely be a fun and exciting season. Good luck to all.

Weds 3 - 2 JKR

This is another one of those many repeat matches. Played several times but we won each of them.
Attendance was good. Wayne, Bullet, Big Loong, Batman, Swee D, Sai D, Chicken, Cikgu, Bao and his PRC girlfriend, Jason (not play, have dinner), Stanley, Irwin (lupa bawa seluar), John (not enough play time), ah Hao (good manner chap), Chung, Pai Kuat Chun, ah Soh, Fai Chai, ah Kit, Dato Leks.
Again, the team is late and we loaned them a keper and two players to start.
First third saw JKR score an early goal after some sloppy play in the middle that saw us lost possession and allowed a fast counter attacking goal. We replied with some nice build up and score via ah Soh who just need a simple tap in. With time clicking away, another swift move down the middle by JKR saw them scored their second goal. 1- 2.
Went for the water break, came back with 7 changes led by Big Loong. The true style of Weds FC resurfaced and pomp pomp, came the equaliser shortly after restart. Swee D finished off a good cross from young Hao. By this time the JKR boys look running out of steam and ideas. Wave of attacks still failed to found the net.
Went for the second break and only 3 changes were made. Batman took his rest after rendering his service. Weds went in with plenty of attacks as the tiring JKR boys were busy playing catch ups. This time Dato Leks score after one of those attacks. He score with his seldom used golden left foot. A 180 degree turn-and-shoot goal. Boleh tahan!
End of the year, it get dark earlier. Game finished with a 3 - 2 scoreline. Next week is likely to be a rematch with the students of Uniten at Uniten Stadium again.

Weds 2 - 2 Maybank

A much anticipated match was somewhat turned into dissapointment in terms of attendeance. By 5pm we only have 7 players with a few more were expected to be on their way. It was suggested by Maybank that we proceed with 7 vs 7 and each team add in additional players as more arrived. As we dragged on till 5:30, one more guy arrived making it 8 vs 8 to kick off. We had to borrow their reserve goalie to make it 9 a side. Well, many of the regulars somehow forgot to inform us that they can't make it! This is not what the team want, come at your own convenience but couldn't bother to inform if you cant make it. What a shame. This is exactly how we have a huge turnout on some days vs a small one just like Friday.
The game was quite even at the initial stage. MBB drew first blood when they stole a goal off an misunderstanding between Lee Joo and Big Loong. Their striker lob in a nice goal catching the goalie totally unexpected. 1-0. As Cikgu arrived from Pulapol - he thought game was there couple with Siao Je, ah Hau and Zahari, it was full 11 vs 11. Late arrival of kim tu added additional bite upfront. With time past on, we found the equaliser.
In the second half, Maybank again took the lead after some neat exchanges. We fought on and scored a goal. Alas, it was rules offside. Undaunted we pressed on and Kim Tu scored an equaliser after meeting a good cross from Kamal. Kenny was having a good game too. Our defence with Taso manning the centre, Jason to the left, Wai Chai to the right and Cikgu as the stopper was able to stop their attacks well.
Kim Tu nearly scored the winner when facing one on one with the keeper, his attempt to chip the keeper was too high.
2-2 and a good result to show. Not forgetting we had lost badly in previous two encounter with scoreline of 6-1 and 6-0.

Many many more games to come

We played against Police Indian and lost 2-4. No problem with our performance. We had fun playing despite losing. It was during the first day of Raya at Pulapol and it was a bit funny seeing the whole road leading to there were very empty.

This wed, we will return with a match against RHB follow by next wed with JLJ at Uniten. Then we will have chance to play the Uniten student (venue to be confimred). There may be a night game with Kris Purtra FC at Purtrajaya stadium after that week. So, guys, many exciting matches to help you keep fit.

Selamat Hari Raya and lets play on

1st Syawal is on wednesday and being the first day of Raya we did not expect to get any teams interested to play a game. However, luck was on our side and a call was received from Maniam the ref asking for a friendly match. With Sang Chuan or rather the new name Expert Klang FC, denying the offer to play we swiftly took up the offer from Maniam.
Yes, Wed FC will not rest even on this big day. What to do, the guys are just crazy about football lah! The opponent will be the Police Indian team that take part in the 51st Bardhan cup. We expect to see a few Indian M-league players like B Rajainikhan. This team will be fast and fit as KL Plus but stronger (since they don't need to fast). But never mind, we will just treat this game with utmost proffesionalism and play to our level best.

See u guys at Pulapol 5pm.

A good performance

Yesterday defeat to M-league side KL Plus ( 0-2 ) was no big deal considering the fact our side is social in nature. A very respectable scoreline indeed- commented Stanley Ng. "If not for their on-loan keeper's blunder, we could have forced out a draw, shouted Swee D". Well, eventhough they are fasting now, as a professional side this is not an excuse to win by a small margin - said someone.

The initial two goals was rather soft, Wed FC made amend by pulling in Sunny Lim to the center and things were tighten up immediately. Plus attacks were cut off while we rely on old legs upfront to chase for every lose/long balls pumped up. Chances were there but Swee D could not make it count. Apa nak buat, try his best already mah..

Second half was more even with us having equal chances in attack. The second team were given more space to attack, Kim Tu's entry certainly made the opponent sit up and play harder. Fai Chai and Kenny both muffled their chances. Kenny ended paying RM20 for missing out on a one on one. In the end, we did not score but were very satisfied and heads held high.

Mat Zan their coach said" Lu orang boleh main bola" and i said " why not?"

Asterix 2 - 1 Wednesday

This match was a deserved win for Asterix. They have more possession and attack plays while we were relying more on counter attacks. That is how we managed to score via one of this. Ja, the scorer. 1-0 half time.
With 18 guys around and Big tuck chose not to play, all the extra guys were thrown in to test water. Asterix continued with their attacks and Terry Harris was a constant threat for our defence. They hit us with two goals to clinch victory. Credits to them.

Friendly with Asterix Reds

The match will be held at Alice Smith School on 21st, Sunday 5pm. Last we met, we had somewhat a lucky game, we led 3-0 only for them to overturn the deficit and led 4-3. We score two goals in the last few minutes to win 5-4.

By the way, in line with the big day 916, we plan to celebrate the major landscape changes during the 17th game. If nothing happen, never mind. It will surely come thru.

Next Wed game

As you would have noticed, the game versus RSC has been called off. They aren't willing to travel to Bangi and we are not keen to play at Road 10 either. So, we shall stick to our plan and play once again with the good natured Army Refs at Uniten. We shall respect our Muslim brothers for still having the desire to play during the fasting period.

See you guys then. Btw, we did not go for Karaoke or massage (cause no one care to sponsor). Maybe Zac will work out some package for the guys??

Champion of Golden League

Wednesday FC defeated Klang Gates 4 - 2 to clinch their first Golden league title after the second try. The match was played in front of 30,000 spectators (minus three zero lah) at BSN Bangi.

Match kick off at 5:30 with the delay cost by late arrival of Gates. It was a rather tame affair then what we thought as Wed FC dominated the attack right from the 1st whistle. Their defence were kept busy by wave after waves of attacks by our frontmen. Eric and Sia both missed some clear chances. It was about 15 minutes into play that we opened the scoring. Striker Ja fire a shot and it was somehow misjudged by the keeper, or rather his bloc couln't prevent the ball from going in. 1 - 0. Sia again missed another chance not long later. However, he redeemed himself by scoring off a neat one two with Lee Joo. First 3rd finish with us pouncing a lot of pressure on Gates.

2nd 3rd resume with Taso and Kim Tu joining the fray. This proved to much to bear and their defence crumble after constanct attacks. A powerful header by Taso was parried away by the keeper but it felt right in front of Ah Soh's foot and he just sapu the ball in. 3 - 0 and we are cruising. Gates got one back off a dubious penalty decision just before the end of it.

3rd half saw us keeping our pressure on them. Gates have no answer despite trying desperately to mount an offensive game plan. With time tickling away, we added another goal, this time via a solo effort from Sifu Kim Tu. He blasted a shot to the top left corner to kill off any chances left of Gates. The bench started the celebration much earlier that expected and their hitman score a goal much to the protest of our players. The linesmen (feeling sympathy with Gates) signaled that the safe made by Zahari indeed crosses the line- however, from what we saw, the ball did not completely crosses the line!) Tidak apa, we said. Time is no more and we celebrated a good win. Manager Bai Kar Lee said we will get 3 tables of Roti Canai buffets at Kiara Curry House.

Wednesday FC will meet Klang Gates in the final on 30/8/2008 at BSN Bangi. Kick off time is 5pm. We managed to beat UIA 4 - 0 on Saturday at the same venue. Goals were scored by Kamal, Ja, Sia and Ah Soh. Klang Gates defeated KEC in penalties 6-5.

This will be the first final appearance for both sides. Klang Gates have many ex-state players in their ranks and this include Khalid Ali. Big Loong and Dribble will be watching us live from somewhere else.

MIFA-Merdeka Cup

We will take part in the tournament organized by the Malaysian Indian Football Association on Sept 6 and 7 at Pulapol. It is a senior open tournament for those oldies age 40 and above...We have roped in some outside players to make up a 20 men squad.
The format would be 11-a-side with unlimited substitution (however, once substituted he can't come in again). Duration is two halves of 20 minutes. Bullet Lee has been nominated as team manager due to his outstanding performance in Sandakan. He will be assisted by ah Long.
Wednesday FC is expected to do well despite facing many ex-State/National players from the other teams. We shall prevail!

Tour de Sandakan

Match Report: 9th August vs. Blue Star. With the main contingent of players arriving around 10am on the match day (after 2hour 30minutes flight plus waking up as early as 4am to ensure arriving at LCCT by 6am), we were quite worried about the freshness of players for the first match. Eventhough 4 players + the manager arrived a day earlier, none of us actually got enough rest. 3 of us went out for drink until 2.30am, those stay in hotel also have their own activities such as watching the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony.

After checking in around 11am and before getting any rest, we gather around 11.30am to go out for lunch. The gentleman who is our host Mr. Liew was a bit late due to some other commitment. To make matters short.....we when for a nice seafood lunch as Sandakan town. After feeding us a nice lunch (we finish lunch around 2pm)......the group went back to the hotel while a few others went to visit a nearby temple. Everyone was complaining about lack of rest and once we reached the hotel.....most of the players went for foot reflexology just behind the hotel......to freshen up.

We gathered at 3.30pm at hotel lobby and proceed to the field for our first match with the kick off time targeted at 4pm. The stadium was packed (around 50 spectators plus 30+ players from both team). After some warming up, our manager (Pai Kar Lee aka Bullet Lee) announce the line up for the first game. Then of course some photograpg session and sourvenior exchange before the actual kick off took place.....

The opponent was quite surprise when we requested the game to be played in 3 half of 30 minutes as they have never had this format before. So the game started around 4.30pm. We were in control from the moment the game started. The midfielder were spreading and passing the ball around and controlling the tempo of the game. However we had some anxious moment when from one of their attack, their strikers speed took our Mr. Dribble who was playing centreback by surprise......the striker was bringing the ball straight towards our goal with Mr. Dribble chasing hard. Realising the speed of the striker, Mr. Dribble has no choice but to commit technical foul and conceded the first free kick to our opponent........the free kick did not produce any result as the ball was blasted high over our goal.....

We are now playing a faster game......attacking down the left and right flank. We managed to create a few scoring chances by was not able to make it count. The most glaring missed was by Kenny who did not connect well from Ah Long's cross. Jo also make a nice try from just outside the box but his placing shot was saved by the goalkeeper. 1st half ended 0-0.

After some changes in 2nd half, we were again in control of the game and playing most of the game at our opponents half. However the occasional opponents attack did cause us some anxious moment especially in at least 2 situation, we were left with only 3 defence as the centreback decided to lend his support in attack. However our defensive trio of Edwin, Wayne and Chung managed to cope well and break their attack. We keep attacking and our trio of Gary, Irwin, Eddy and Gaga was giving the opponent defenders a really hard workout. However the goal is still missing despite the numbers of shots we tried. 2nd half 0-0.

After some half time talked by the manager, we started the 3rd half attacking and trying to get the elusive goal. Ah Long is the culprit for missing the 1st golden chances when he managed to beat the defenders but shot high over the goal. A good run from John to the left confused the opponent defenders. Instead of shoting, John make a pull back and square the ball into the box. The defender only managed to poke the ball as far as Zac's leg......and needing to invitation, Zac let off a powerful kick, the ball hit the cross bar, bounced down and........goal.....goal..... Finally we managed to get the first goal and now we were leading 1-0.

The team now plays with more confidence. The second goal came when Mr. Dribble controls the ball just outside the D box. Instead of closing him down, the opponent make a mistake a giving him time and space.......a powerful left leg shot by Mr. Dribble left the goalkeeper with no chance of making a save........2-0. We were now in total control over our tired opponent. We managed to create some half chances but did not manage to score more goals. The game ended: Wednesday FC 2 Blue Star 0.

Man of the Match Candidate: Wai Jai, Zac & Leks.

Vs. Padang Merbok

The game took place at Uniten B yesterday (30th July 08) without Boss Wayne. Opponent was Padang Merbok FC and as usual, the game kick off late around 6pm. Most of the old man of WFC did not want to start the game due to the hot weather and also due to their participation on 7 a side tournament at RSC this Saturday. However the FT Chinese manager, Stanley was very eager to play and was seen warming up by jogging since 4.45pm. Our MascheTailow and Sai D decided the line up. So the first name to be called was Stanley as the playmaker, follow by our captain Lee Joo and the rest. Cikgu played as keeper as none of our gk turn up.

The Malay boys started the game on slow pace as the have no time to warm up, so our old man was controlling the game but without creating many chances. Korea lasted only 15 minutes and came out to be replaced by Fei Jai. The game become lively now with the additional speed from Fei Jai and the Malay boys already warm up. A through ball from don't know who put Fei Jai through but the Malay gk was fast out his line and manage to kick the ball and at the same time clash into Fei Jai. The clearance drop nicely to Sai D and with the gk laying on the field holding his ankle, Sai D has the easy task of putting the ball into the empty net from 30 yards out. First half finished at 1-0.

Second half start with yours truly as gk. The boring second half have nothing much to talk except for an injury on Cikgu when he was banged from behind going into a header. So out go Cikgu with the concern Stanley unsure if he will have enough players for Saturday.

Third half again started with me as gk again (ma kai, this is the last time I am playing as gk). Big Tat and Yeo played as centre back with Luan Luan Jao John as right back. Sai D and LLJ John decided to show their passing skill in front of our goal and after exchanging few passes, it was intercepted by opponent who waste no time to dribble straight towards the goal and put the ball pass our gk. However from kicked off, Sai D put us in the lead again with a brilliant and deft chip. Kenny extend our lead with a powerful follow up shot after his first shot hit the gk face. And Fei Jai put the game beyond our opponent with a brilliant solo.

Another mistake by our player resulting in the ball being intercept again and a good cross field pass found their striker in acre of space. The striker has the easy task off putting the ball into the net pass our gk. Final result 4-2 to the oldies of WFC.

Bullet Lee watch the match from outside due to his pai kar. As usual pasang kia Gaga called me to confirm the venue of the game but did not turn up. The next game, they should be banish to the reserve due to the lack of appearance.

WFC is now adopting the policy of first 11 and more playing time for those who comes regularly. No more star treatment for the so called star players. This is only fair to everyone. So to those who wants more playing time.......please show more commitment.

Ah Long: reporting and commenting from Uniten B.

See you soon.

Wednesday 2 - 2 PLUS

A fine weather to play a game of good football only spoiled by a big patch of water right in the middle of our home pitch. The drainage system apparently did not function since ages ago. Another proof of wastage or shall i say corruption (despite paying over 500K for the drainage job)?

Again, this is a full house attendence. Over 20 guys. Waynaldo, Lingam, Bullet, Big Loong, Batman, Swee D, Jason, John, Irwin, Korea, Fai Chai, Frankie, Cikgu, Joachim, Edwin, Loh, Siao Je, Yian, Zahari, Kamal, Felix and Aiman Wong. Our opponent is the team that will see some of their players selected to the new season M-league side. So, definitely these guys will want to prove themselves to the selectors of PLUS.

First third started will both team applying the cautious approach. Attacks were few and the younger PLUS side were doing more of the possession with us the oldies sitting back and relax. The first goal came off in about the end of 1st third when they score off a dubious off-side goal. Protest to the MIB wasn't entertained and apparently Boss Jason were the one who made the off-side trap failed.

PLUS scored another one right after the start of second third. However, undaunted, our B team showed their class by equalizing with two well taken chances. Fai Chai who just recovered from high fever (for watching too much porns) score a brace. Korea was the supplier for his second goal. This goal deserved extra mentioned for the way it was scored. A neat through ball from Korea found Fai Chai with acres of space. Fai chai raced through and have a one on one duel with the keeper. He managed to beat the on rushing keeper, had time to ditch another tackle by a PLUS defender and cooly banged it in. What a good goal!

In the 3rd third, again our forward had two golden chances to kill off PLUS but alas
Swee D missed a sitter followed by Siao Je whose lobbed over the keeper found the ball narrowly missed the empty goalmouth. In the end 2 - 2. The uncles of Wednesday FC proved once again why we are "no play play team" , dont' underestimate us.

Wednesday 5 - 4 Asterix Reds

Here is the comment from Asterix regarding our friendly game with them:

Sunday, July 6, 2008
Asterix Reds 4 - 5 Wednesday FC (Friendly)

Having just secured a coaching role in The Maldives, Roy Schofield - the alleged former pro with Partick Thistle - returned from sunshine of The Maldives for this friendly with Wednesday FC. It was to be a gloomy afternoon for Roy however. His two own goals (yes, two own goals) provided Wednesday with the decisive goals they needed to turn around a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 win.

We started the game knocking the ball around quite nicely but didn't hold the ball well up top or create many opportunities to score. As the game wore on, our patience shortened and we reverted to looking for the killer ball all too often and gave possession to Wednesday too often. To their credit, they used it well and exploited the space afforded by our 3 man defence to take a 3 goal lead after about 30 minutes. We then reverted to a more traditional 4-4-2 formation which shored up our defence and gave us a better platform from which to attack. This changed the game and two goals before half time by Adam Scott brought us back to 2-3.

We continued to create chances in the second half and held firm at the back. Two very good goals by Andy Johnston and Bunmi Soldiya gave us a 4-3 advantage and we looked like adding more. A couple of good chances went begging but I felt we were in good shape to add to our total and win comfortably. Then the curse of the White Feather struck. A corner to the near post should have been easily dealt with. However, Roy - shall I say - drifted off his post only to see his attempt to clear the ball deflect off his shin and into the net. 4-4, but I still felt we could score to restore our lead. However, I didn't expect what was to come next. The Wednesday wide man delivered a cross to no-one into our box. With plenty of time, we all felt that Roy would deal comfortably with the ball. But, one bounce, Roy leans forward into the ball, meets the ball with his head and sends a perfectly timed header rocketing off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net. It would have been a finish any centre forward would have been proud off. Such a shame it was in the wrong end.

Iit kept a couple of good stops from Tom 'The New Cat' Sarginson to prevent the scoreline worsening as we pushed forward looking for an equaliser. 4-5 was how it ended.

Golden League

We will take part in the Golden league starting this week. Only players born in 1974 or before can play (age 34 and up). However each team can field 3 players born in 1981 or before (minimum age 27). Those who play will chip in money in each match they involved. $10. Two years ago, we lost in the semi-final. This time hope we will go all the way to win the cash prize. It will not be easy but we will do our best.

Sandakan Trip

Mr Leong Mun Wai a.k.a Wai Chai is the latest member to Sandakan. Wai Chai is one of the pioneer member of Mancis United FC and has served the team well. Playing as a midfielder, his presence will definitely strengthen the squad. Welcome brother!

Simply The Best

After watching the way Spain played, it was no doubt that they truly deserved to be European Champion. To me that is the way football should be played. Great teamwork , keep the ball and great skills. The players that really stand out all through for Spain in this tournament is Brazil-born Senna, Xavi, Inniesta and Silva. Torres and others also did well. Hopefully Spain will carry on with this brand of football (which is good for the development of football) and shine in the next World Cup. One win One lost

18th June- After the high of 23 guys it was the low of 13 guys. However, everyone got to have more play time. The opponent was ELITE FC, one of those highway toll companies that is making good money from us. With everyone playing as a team we run out winning 3-1.

21st June- Agaisnt Dusun Tua at Alice Smith. They were rather late due to the heavy rain. We played monkey ball for half and hour to pass time. 16 fellas turned up. Game was fast and furious. Dusun was running us to the ground but only managed to score once. Batman equalised for us in second half. In the end, two soft goals by our goalies - Fishmen and Chung, gave away the game. Luan Luan Jao and Chung kena kow kow from Batman. Cool lah Batman, friendly game ma. Let them learn from it loh.

Menang 3-1 vs Petronas Research

The best attendance so far. 23 guys turn up. 3 chose not to play since they were late. Siao Je, Keeper kit and Fai chai. Waynaldo "punctured" in the first half and ask to be substituted by Joachim (who took leave just to catch some angin - prepare for upcoming final).

Ong (goalie), Waynaldo, Bullet, , Cikgu, Jason - Defenders. Ling, Swee D, Batman, Stanley- Midfielders. John partner Ah Soh in forward. That's the 1st third line up.
Swee D scored from 25 yards out with a beautiful shot that the keeper failed to catch. 1-0.

Second third resumed with mass changes. Only Ong and Batman remained. Big Loong, Fish, Chung, Leks, Frankie (new player), Big Tuck , Alan, Joachim & Loh joined in. New striker Frankie almost scored in an attack but found his shot hit the post. Undaunted, he finally scored with a clever pass from Batman. 2-0. Club 9 Edwin came in for Batman. He was late due to flat tyre.

3rd third began with those from first third mixed with second third. Guys were taking it easy and in one attack by Petronas Research, their 40-year-old bespectacled forward/midfield scored off a header. Poor "luan luan jao John" ended up in the net. Imagine the goalscorer was wearing glasses and dare to head the ball!
2-1. The game was pretty much a foregone case when Big Tuck scored via a header. He pointed his finger to the sky and offer a thank you prayer.

Game ended 3-1 to Wednesday.

2 LOSSES IN A ROW

With Waynaldo not around, the manager baton was past to Ah Long. The burden of expectations probably weighted a bit too heavy and the end result was 2 straight defeats. First with a miserable scoreline of 2 - 5 to a bunch of really young kids followed by 2- 4 lost to powerhouse RHB bank. I did not know the full story to write anything appropriate here. Only came to know that the first lost was due to below par performance. I thought Ah Long was too upset to have let the team down, hence no match report was coming in. Cheer up Ah Long.

We hope the upcoming match against Petronas Research will stop the rot. See you all at RHB this week.

By the way, the list to Sandakan has added Henry Yong in.

Stanley scored a brace in 4-1 winner

Stanley netted twice in first and last third of the game against KPT to help Wed FC running out 4-1 victory. First goal was off a beautiful cross by Swee D. The ball floated perfectly for Stanley to have the easiest job of nodding it in. His second was a thunderous shot from 30 yards out. It was a rare act from Stan given his knee problem. Overall, the Wed guys played well. KPT were all over us in the first third and they opened the scoring after beating the offside trap. However, as the game went on they got tired and the veterans of Wed FC gain further strength. It was well over in the second third when Wed scored 3 goals to overturn the deficit.

Wed FC vs UPM Staff

This match was supposed to be against the 1RAMD team. Alamak! Their manager text me at 10 evening to cancel the match. After frantically searching for opponents, none could play. In last ditch effort, i contacted UPM Staff team. En. Zainal the coach agreed to play. Hallelujah! Game on.
Shoot! come the next day. Around 4 something, dark clouds started to gather to the south of Sg. Besi area. We all wonder whether it will be game or not. Phone calls kept coming in just to find out if the game will go on. SMSes were sent telling the guys to make it regardless it rain rocks or not. By 5, the sky opened up just wee bit. Game on brother!

With UPM A pitch turning to a fish pond, the game again switched to the ever reliable College 14 pitch. Darn! it was perfect, not water logged. Game started with 18 fellas turning up on our side and swell to 20 with the arrival of Jason and Edwin. Those who have not turned up for a long long time resurface too. Alan and Big D (Andy). Lucky that Swee D and Batman did not turn up. Hmm...wonder what will happened. With such a big squad? What to do? First come first serve lah..and the regular gets to play first loh..To make our selection job easier, we ended loaning 4 of our young studs to the opponent just to help them make up a team.

Overall, the match was quite even. Not many clear chances were created. We were just lucky to score with an opportunistic goal when Crazy "ah Soh" was put through. He rounded the advancing keeper to tab in an empty goal. 1 - 0 to Wednesday FC in the end.

This is the third times we played this team in as many as 2 months period. The overall result is win 1 draw 1 and lose 1. Next week is back to Uniten agains JKR FC.

Wednesday 3 - 1 Merbok FC

The match was played on a sunny afternoon on Sunday 18th May at BSN. We trooped in rather early expecting to play asap but the waiting game was at work again. At least this time it wasn't too bad as Merbok players started to arrive 5 minutes before 5. Our guys chose to play "monkey" while waiting for the rest of Merbok's players. Game kick off around 5:35 (not bad lah).
As usual, it was a 3-half game. Just to mention here, Jason arrived with him a new Europass ball all the way from France (Euro dollar $110). Of course, it was dully baptised. First third kick off with both teams sizing each other up in the first ten minutes. As both teams slowly went into the rhythm, Goal....scored by Merbok. Lingam Ling tried to encourage the rest to regroup. Out of several attacks, Ling combined well with Yew to put Kenny through..Kenny scored with a low drive to the left of the goalie. 1 -1 first third ended.

With captain Batman's arrival in the second third, the midfield was strengthen. Sia and Yew were busy opening up chances for the forward and in a swift move, Dribble Leks (a.k.a Lee Chong Wei) score with a powerful header (but i thought he just closed his eyes and headed it). Wed FC continued to dominate and our player was fouled in the box- spot kick given. Kaka Sia stepped up to strike it at the left post and bounced in. 3 -1.

Third third resumed with mass substitution just like second half. With a bigger size squad, we managed to use it to our full advantage in terms of fitness. Merbok were struggling with a thin bench. It was more like a one way traffic now. Despite 1001 chances, Wed players just can't score. In the end, 3 - 1 to Wed FC. Handshake, well done.

Game call off....and on again.

The match with 1RAMD has been cancelled as they called to say they can't raise a team. Too bad, and i was forced to seek high and low for a replacement. Thank God, finally our ever reliable partner, UPM Staff stepped in to help. It is now game on at UPM A. Hopefully our opponent for next week JKR fc will not do a 1RAMD.

Wednesday FC vs. KL Plus U19

This is the third meeting between the old men for WFC against all this youngster under 19 of age with us winning the previous 2 encounters. As usual, the youngster were already warming up while the old men were seen taking their time wearing boots and catching their stamina (smoking lah). Mr. Luan Luan Jau "John" somehow managed to forget bringing his boots and short pants, so he has no choice but to be the Mr. Strategy of the day. That early warning of disaster were somehow not noted by all of us who thought it is just going to be another easy match.

When the ref blew the whistle to start the first half, many of the star players were still missing. So the line up goes like this: GK Kit, Waynaldo & Bullet cb, Chung lb & Yu Loh rb. The midfielder, Crazy, Ah Long, Sai D and Big Mouth Stan. Striker: Willy and Ah Yan. With that kind of line up especially when we are player a CB as striker and 2 natural striker as midfielder, u probably know that it is going to be tough. And true enough, the first third start with the youngster attacking us most of the time. Our midfielder even though tried hard, was not playing as a unit. However our defender was doing well to break down the youngsters attack with Ah Long as the defensive midfielder doing lots of covering. Just when we finally settle down and throwing some sporadic attacks, the youngster make a counter attack. From a long ball through the midfield, Bullet Lee was covering and shielding the striker well while expecting the GK to come out and pick up the ball. However, both the GK and Bullet do not have that chemistry between them, so at the most crucial time, both decided to stop and let the other guy to deal with the running ball. The striker managed to sneak in and said "Thank you" before calming slotting the ball past our GK. So both GK and Bullet was up for firing with words like "ma kai", "kayu lah", "heng tai, jin san ti" etc being hurled. Ah Long after much running could not last the first third and went out 5 minutes before the half finish with a new player Ah Siong who came in for him.

Second half line up, CB: Cikgu & Waynaldo. RB Ah Siong, LB Chung. Midfielder: Yu Loh, MascheTailow, Bullet Lee and Fei Jai. Striker Sai D and Willy. The line up tells a lot, with 6 natural defenders playing. From the first minutes of restart, our formation change from a 4-4-2 to 6-2-2 with the 6 defenders playing at the same defending line. That Kayu Bullet Lee basically just could not differentiate his position of defensive midfield and centre back, so he was sticking to Waynaldo all the time. The team was again under attack from the youngsters. The subs at the side of the field decided to make some changes, and shouted that Bullet Lee and Waynaldo change their position. Now the control of the midfield improve and from a counter attack, Waynaldo who is now playing as midfield, managed to supply a through ball to Willy who have not problem beating the goalkeeper. 1-1. MascheTailow was having problem running after taking a huge ba chang during the 4pm yam cha session. Sai D was wandering around shaking his head seeing how we keep losing possession. He was substitute with Felix. Probably due to not used to playing as left midfielder or he just lack the stamina, Felix was seen walking and panting most of the time. However we managed to held on and finish the 2nd third 1-1.

Before the final third, our MascheTailow sound out a warning, "Ah Long, you go and put a proper line up". Aiyoyo, being the small fish, I sure push the responsibility away lor. So Sai D was entrusted with the task of putting 11 guy out there from what was available. The final third see us playing better with more control in the midfield and with Fei Jai and Crazy in front, managed to give their defender more preassure. From an attack, Ah Long release Crazy on the left. Crazy after beating a defender, sent a cross in towards Fei Jai.....the whole team was holding their breath. However we had put unrealistic hope on Fei Jai. With his height, we should not have expect too much. True enough, Fei Jai jumped and managed to miss his header all together. The ball drop and hit the toe of a defender who wash rushing back.......and the ball rolls into their goal. "Goal.....goal...." Fei Jai was celebrating.......and for us....."ma kai, very lucky wor".

The game goes on with each side missing some opportunities. Crazy was holding well up front and beating defenders quite easily but the final touch was not there. Another through pass from Crazy put Fei Jai through but the GK was alert enough to rush our and hit a clearance which headed directly to Sai D. From 44.2 yards away, Sai D hit a nice first time shot and the ball was goal bound with their GK still stumbling back. "Ma kai.....missed! I hit very soft liaw lah!" exclaimed Sai D when the ball just missed the goal by flying 1.3 inches over the cross bar.

The youngster were also dangerous in their attack. In a move, their striker managed to dribble passed Felix. Cikgu came in to support and managed to force him to the byline on the right side of our goal, so basically there were no angle for shooting. To our amazement, Cikgu after doing all the superb work, decided to pull the striker at his arm and the referee has no choice but to award a penalty. "Pangggg......." the ball strikes the cross bar..........After some exchange of attacks....the youngster again dribble past our defender and this time make no mistake of slotting the ball past on rushing Ah Kit. 2-2

After the game, as usual the banters goes on.....the post mortem and pointing out of what were the mistakes make were going well when suddenly the topic took a drastic change when Sai D start talking about Macau trip.......now the topic become more interesting with Big Mouth Stan getting very excited.....ok....I am not going to reveal the detail of the topic here...so........

Final score 2-2.

Wednesday 1 - 2 Uniputra

It was an excellent day for football as the skies were filled with clouds and a cool breeze was billowing lightly at the kolej 14 field. Touted to be a really good field... Sadly, we found out the the parquet flooring at a futsal court was softer on the knees then this so called "gempak" field.

The game started off late as usual (this is a norm la when you play government bodies and university staffs and students), but from the looks of it these guys were all set to exact some revenge on us as we keep on beating them.

The first third saw WFC trading blows with their opponents as both teams struggled to get a firm grip on the game (the only thing that was firm was the field). As the half went on WFC started to get some semblance on the passing team that we are. However, a fluke goal which saw our "Fishman" try to stop the ball with his third leg but to no avail. The ball trickled pass his not long enough member to a Uniputra player who slotted home from 1 feet. 1 nil down to WFC.

The 2nd third, approximately 6 players were substituded for either not running enough (Susu Niam Niam Club members la...Bullet the main culprit) or not being able to run enough. The changes proved fruitful as a long searching ball from Masheralong through a freekick found Kenny in acres of space. Kenny however was able to wait long enough for the keeper to come out and clatter into him big time... Luckily he scored. 2 minutes later, from a corner Uniputra grabbed the lead again... With the ball played in for a corner, the WFC defenders (everyone that was in the box la...) were more interested to see if they could count how many birds were flying over head as the Uniputra player just had to stand there and head the ball.

The 3rd third was played out finally with WFC trying to play some good football. We were rewarded with more possesion and shots on goal, sadly with no results. The highlight of the final third was the banter between Swee Dee and motor mouth Ah Long... All in all a great game of football, on a beautiful day with great friends.

Borak Borak Time

Guys, is Wednesday again. The lover of Western cuisine should be familiar with TGIF (Thank God is Friday, hope I got this correct), so for all WFC members, it is always TGIW. Is yam cha follow by football time.

I managed to browse through the newspaper this morning while having my breakfast and 2 headline caught my attention. The disaster in Myammar and Paul Gascoine seen begging on the street. I remember when Mr. Gascoine was at his peak playing for Spurs, he needlessly went for a challenge in a game and broke his leg. He was never the same player again. It was the same case as our friend Mr. Bai Khar Tan who went for a challenge in the game against Astaka and sustain serious injury to his knee that requires operation. He is now on his road to recovery but still unsure when he could start playing again. So football and natural disaster is very similar in a way..........you never know when disaster will strike but we could definitely have some plan to minimize the damage if indeed it strikes. This lead me back to my main point today....

Last Saturday during the game against Serdang Ranger, Wayne, Bone Chun and me was sitting outside during the third half when we start talking about Bai Khar Tan's injury and the cost involved for the operation et cetera. Wayne and I both agreed that as a footballer, Bone Chun should have some coverage in terms of insurance and medical insurance. In fact if we are to look into the cost of the operation which is more than RM40k as in Bai Khar Tan's case, do we really have that cash in hand to deal with it? Another question will be why should our hobby becomes a financial burden which will affect our family if we really sustain an injury? While a lot of players would think that they will not sustain injury if they do not go in a challenge or try to avoid challenge, then I would say this is very wrong. Yours truly managed to lose my footing, slip and sprain my ankle last week without any challenge from opponent. I was lucky as I wore my ankle guard as protection which managed to hold firm. Without it, it could have been worst.

Guys, please think about it. By the way, I am not an insurance agent but as Wayne put it, "you don't have to get a policy from me, but please do go and get a coverage to protect yourself and family".

See you guys later......

Wednesday vs UPM Staff- 7/5

This match will be held at College 14 pitch, UPM.

Wednesday 2 - 0 Serdang Rangers

Our young ospponent arrived very early for some serious warm ups while the 6 of us who arrive early went over to the nearby warong to enjoy our Milo ais, teh tarik. The rare appearance of our Aussie mate Taso added extra strength in the middle with Big Loong no where to be seen and Batman arriving late as usual. Game started with the younger opponents trying to play a fast pace game. The middle line with Kaka Sia, Yew, ah Long and Taso were holding on their own very well, spreading and spraying our two frontmen Kenny and Crazy with many chances. The back line with "Golden left foot Chung", John John , Bullet and Waynaldo were patrolling the defensive line with ease. Fruitking Ong had nothing much to do except the save some sporadic attempts by Serdang Rangers.
In the first half, some intelligent play between the midfielders freed up ah Yew who rounded the keeper to open the scoring. Ah Yew scored our second in a very similar build up. After that, the match went from end to end with Serdang trying very hard to get one back. But our defenders did well to contain them. Matches started to get a bit physical no thanks to the ref who thought a friendly game should try not to give away too many yellows. However, all was under controlled.
Ah Long was the only casualty of this match. In a move to clear a high ball, i don't know what happen actually, he landed awkwardly and injured his swift left foot. Maybe out for a couple of week. Makai! Ah long said.

Wednesday 2 - 2 POS M'sia

The match was played on a windy yet Sunny evening. All about 19 players turned up. We had to wait nearly an hour for the opponent to have a full squad. Prior to that someone suggested that we shouldn't waste time in waiting and a fun 9-a-side was promptly organized. Finally the opponent arrived with 11 chaps. However the match started with them having a great mix of different colours while we stuck with our favourite yellow kit.
The match started in a slightly faster pace and POS were having the upper hand. Their two Indian boys were combining well to threaten our back line. Cikgu and Bullet were always there when needed. Nearly 20 minutes of play later, POS drew first blood when a lapse of concentration allowed the elder Indian boy to supply a through pass to his brother, which he dully scored in a one on one with keeper Ong. Not long after, in a similar attack started by these two chaps, POS scored again through the first scorer. First half ended with Wednesday relying mostly on counter attacks with John nearly scored off a header.
Second half resumed with us making 4-5 changes (the opponent practically changed their whole team - a weaker side definitely). Sensing a weaker side would allow more goal opportunities, this prompted ah Long (who initially declined to play, eagerly wanted to join the fray). Wednesday managed to scored the first goal through Kaka Sia when he avoided two defenders to do so. And guess who scored our equalizer?? Surprise? Ah Long! And it was a beauty and a bit of luck too. He managed to dribble past two defenders and placed it to the far right of the keeper. Ah Long was just ecstatic to score a rare jewel piece of goal. Thereafter the match went into a stalemate with neither side manage to find the net. Big Loong and Waynaldo chose to sit out the entire match citing "no mood to play".

Deep Inside of a Non Star Player

Joining Wed FC needs some courage and definitely more humility than working in a big corporate company. I am not sure about how the rest of my teammates think, but that was definitely in my mind when I joined them for my first game and it is still inside my mind till today.

You know you will be playing alongside the Social League star players mostly make up of players from the champion team Mancis, plus some other stars such as Taso of KLV, Sia and Yew of SC, Joachim who was with LSCM-TSV then, Onn of Kepong Chinese et cetera. And at that time I was playing for Sri Petaling in Div. 1 (now even worst, playing for Maluri at Div. 2). All those mentioned players plus Batman, Iron Loong, Sai D and other star players from Mancis, the thought of it already make your leg wobbly, and it is worst than having to face my boss on his off day.

Will that in mind and with encouragement from my two susu niam niam buddy (Bullet Lee and Robin), I join Wednesday FC more than a year ago. For my first game, I only got to play in the third half of the game......then another 3rd half appearance in my second game.....which led me to think if it is all worth it? Afterall I was consider as one of the star player in SP team at that time.....But the excitement of playing in a team who has players who are really dedicated, works hard and the opportunity to learn more (yes, the opportunity to learn at the age of 34) drive me on.

Well......it has been almost 2 years now that I am with this team. I am still the fringe player in the team. The manager would still prefer to put a right leg star player to play on the left midfield position rather than putting a natural left leg player (Me lah) in the starting line up. If I do get the opportunity to play first, most likely the 2nd half would not see me featuring. Sometimes when we play against teams who plays in Selangor League, the manager would prefer to call outsiders (good players lah) than letting me play first.

Not worth it??? I don't have the answer. I still arrived at the field around 4.30pm and start wearing my boots. Sometimes I arrived earlier at 4pm to yam cha with my buddy bullet Lee and then proceed to the field before 5pm........

See you guys later.........

Why Wednesday FC

I'll tell you the story of how I got involved in Wednesday FC... It was 3-4 seasons back (can't really remember when), I was looking for some weekday games and asked my then manager (TL Tan-LSCM) if he knew anyone playing during the weekdays. I think it took him nearly a month to finally tell me that there's this Chinese team called Mancis United who plays weekdays. He gave me Wayne's number of which I called to arrange my first game with this (at that time) unknown team.

My first game was a real eye opener as I walked into a couldron of "Chinese speaking", "Gangsta Looking" team mates who didn't really seem to want me there. We played at PORIM and I played as RB. I remember a bloke especially, as all he could do was hurl verbal tirades at me in Chinese (Swee Dee, you know what you did)... It only stopped when Waynaldo to him that understand a little of the language. The game ended with us winning and me thinking "Never Again".

But the following week, I found myself back again for more abuse... The game went on better, as I showed glimpses that I could actually play some decent football, although the verbal attacks didn't stop, this time from the unofficial captain "Batman".

As time went by I realised that these "Hakka Speaking", "Gangsta Looking" guys weren't really half as bad as I thought they were. In fact they were quite the opposite, they took me in as one of their own. The sense of belonging in this team (once they warm to you, it helps if you're an OK player) is out of this world. The rest as some would say is history, I'm now playing at CB and sometimes get a run out at DM (when the superstars are not around). I'll even go as far to say that I was the pioneer in the set-up of the Wednesday FC team (Wayne, don't know if you remember...but I'm taking credit for the naming of the team).

So to the guys that were there on my first game; Tai Loong, Swee Dee, Ah Soh, Batman, Bullet, Waynaldo, Kwai Low (dearly departed) and those I can't remember as I'm getting old... Thank you for giving me such a hard time...I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Corruption Scandal on Malaysia Fottball Again?

Well well well. I guess everyone has read the story of how some Sarawak players are under police investigation for match fixing? This is sickening stuff to read. In 1994 a good generation of footballers were implicated and suspended and Malaysian football was forced to start anew. Anyway, back in 1994 Malaysia's football standard were already downhill. When will our football standard improved? This question had been asked and debated by many. So many factors are being cited. Definitely i can say is the amateurish management standard in all level from FAM to State FAs is one big factor.

We can't entirely blame it on the players alone for this issue. When we know very well that several states have failed to pay the players salary, EPF? Hell! do we expect the players to have the heart to turn up for training let alone playing competitive matches? The rot has long started lah...it started when politicians are involving themselves in football scene. As Razif of UK Rovers said, a top management position can easily help politician to gain the needed publicity and profile in his party and the public. This in turn will booster his chances of climbing up the party ladder. How true is that! Well, to me the grassroots structure must be enhanced or forever we can just dream on of seeing Malaysia in top flight football again.

Wesnesday 2 - 3 Felda Under 19

It was a good workout for us playing a bunch of young guys. First half was quite even with us dictating the pace. Simple one two touches and passes made the opponent doing most of the running.

Kenny scored our first via a header. A nice goal. His elder brother Eric could have double the lead with another one-on-one but aiyoyo! he failed to find the net. Eventually Eric redeemed himself by getting a penalty. Score he did.

After that everyone sort of relax too much and the little kids pulled one back by beating the off side trap. We continued to relax. Towards the end of second half they got a penalty and equalized. Third half came and even keeper Ong was playing as a striker as the rest chose to sit out and chat. We were still playing good football, but our fitness went further downhill...At the very end, Felda boys squeezed in a goal no thanks to lose marking. Overall, a good match. Handshakes and good laugh was how is ended. After that it was time to hit the shower, do the dinner, take an early nap to wake up and watch Barcelona vs Man Utd.

See you all next week at COIT Uniten (click to see the map for College of Information Technology).
